Why our work is unique

Why our work at APT  is different

  • We are a small, specialised organisation which focuses on building self reliance and enterprise
  • We combine practical help with tackling the root causes of poverty
  • We work with diverse partners, making the most of our joint expertise.

APT has helped build the skills and organisation of Kenyan beekeepers, afterwards acting as a consultant to Traidcraft, another UK based NGO, whilst they help with marketing Fairtrade honey.

  • We are proud of the way we work with local partners, building their capacity and reputation, rather than our own field offices.
  • We reach large numbers of beneficiaries, yet we have very few staff and modest UK offices
  • We work on long term impact, with some of the most vulnerable families in the world
  • Our work is innovative and diverse; we are learning how our work can be valuable more widely

Pleased with APT’s monitoring and evaluation approaches, the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief have facilitated other UK organisations to visit APT’s work in Africa

  • Our small size in the UK helps us to be flexible and personal
